Ten-man Orlando City extended its club-record unbeaten streak to eight matches when it fought FC Dallas to a scoreless draw on Sunday evening in steamy conditions at Frisco, Texas.
Orlando City (7-2-5, 26 points) is in fourth place in the Eastern Conference behind the Columbus Crew, Philadelphia Union and Toronto FC. The Lions' recent run supplanted the previous club record of six games without a loss set in 2018.
Pedro Gallese had four saves to record the shutout for Orlando City while Jimmy Maurer turned away three shots to secure the goalless draw for Dallas.
Orlando City continued is historic stretch despite having to play the final 21 minutes with just 10 men. Midfielder Jhegson Mendez received a second yellow card, for unsporting behavior, after initially being booked for time-wasting in the 64th minute.
Despite being short-handed, Orlando City pressed the action in the game's final stretch, most notably when Junior Urso ripped a shot in the 80th minute that forced Maurer to dive to his right at the last instant to make the save.
Dallas (5-3-5, 20 points) has a loss and a draw in the past week after forging a three-match winning streak. FC Dallas is in fourth place in the Western Conference behind the Seattle Sounders, Portland Timbers and Sporting Kansas City.
Dallas still has a 3-1 lead in the all-time series between the two sides, with two draws.
Orlando City ruled the stats, outshooting FCD 17-14, owning 53.4 percent of the possession and outpassing the home team 469-400.
The Lions had the best scoring chance in the first half, in the 45th minute, when Mauricio Pereyra passed to Nani, who chipped a ball toward the back post to Chris Mueller, who was in the open behind Maurer. However, Mueller didn't quite have the room to finish the play, and the ball was kicked into the outside of the net.
