Jessica Korda advanced to the championship match of the LPGA eTour Live virtual tournament with a 1-up victory over Angel Yin on Wednesday.
Playing on the back nine of the virtual version of the Merion Golf Club, Korda finished off her victory when Yin conceded a short putt on the ninth hole. Yin made things interesting on the final hole by making par from the edge of the green.
"Trash talk definitely was No. 1," Korda said in jest about her strategy for victory on the World Golf Tour video game. "... I have to say, I'm never going to choose another hard golf course ever again."
Playing from her Florida home, Korda lost the first two holes to Yin before she rallied for the victory. Yin was playing from her home in California.
Korda's comeback began when she recorded a par 3 at No. 12 to win her first hole of the match.
Korda carded another par at No. 15 to even the match and then took the lead for good with a birdie on the par-4 16th hole.
The championship match next Wednesday will pit Korda against the winner Friday's semifinal between Tiffany Joh and Jane Park.
The event is keeping LPGA players and fans engaged during the tour's shutdown caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
The matches are streaming live on the WGT Twitch, YouTube and Facebook accounts, LPGA's Twitter, Facebook, YouTube accounts and LPGA.com, and Discovery's GOLFTV Twitter and Facebook accounts, and is available via video on demand on Golf Channel's YouTube account and GolfChannel.com.
